Arsene Wenger is the best manager the club has ever had but the lack of trophies in the last five years has understandably brought his position into question.

He has a phenomenal eye for a talent and a rare, unrelenting desire to play entertaining football but the lack of silverware has caused enormous frustration at the Grove. In this baron period he has been hamstrung by the financial commitment to building the new stadium but, finally, it appears those restraints have been lifted. Wenger has said:

"The construction of the Emirates Stadium meant that for many years we could not spend a lot of money. Our financial situation has greatly improved. We are finally able to buy the players we think we need."

This now means he has no more excuses. Wenger will have to deliver silverware next season otherwise the man who has done so well to keep the club at the highest level during this period may finally have to admit defeat at the end of his contract and let another man reap the rewards of his enormously selfless work.
