Gerrard - Genius or Good player in a bad bunch? 18:36 - Jan 2 with 2379 viewsPoolman

So should Gerrard be counted as one of the greats or just an outstanding player in a mediocre side?

Poll: What did you do with Fonz?

An outstanding player in a mediocre to half decent side. That doesn't preclude him from being one of the greats.

Mainstream music is sh!t!

Come on Karl make him an offer he can't refuse and get him here for the rest of the season.

An outstanding player in a mediocre to half decent side.
Just about nails it SSP.
I would have worded it - an outstanding player who dragged several mediocre/decent teams to some incredible wins and a fair few trophies.

A very good player who has often had the misfortune to play in very ordinary sides. Decent class, rather than world class, and has been past his best for quite a long while now.

Icon? It's all Rio Ferdinand's fault.

What player isn't past his best when he hits mid thirties?
Shows how good he's been that even past his best...and a busted flush : ), he could walk into any other premiership side. Because they would all have him even now if they could get him.

Oh he's a busted flush alright, and has been for a while. Part of Liverpool's (and England's) problem in recent years has been how much our attacks slow down when the ball goes to him.

He's had a good career. His finest hour was Liverpool's last Champion's league win. But it's been most downhill from there.

I wondered how long it would be before you came along
I'm not even going to bother debating it with you. I'll just leave you with the quote below from someone who's opinion carries a little bit more weight.

"Is he the best in the world? He might not get the attention of Messi and Ronaldo but yes, I think he just might be. He has great passing ability, can tackle and scores goals, but most importantly he gives the players around him confidence and belief. You can't learn that — players like him are just born with that presence."
–Zinedine Zidane on Gerrard, 2009.[61]

Alex Ferguson did not rate him that highly.

Stevie G is so loyal to Liverpool he could never play against them!

The only reason Fergie said he didn't rate him is because he knew he didn't have a cat in hell's chance of ever having him as a player.
It's very easy to have a twisted opinion on something that's out of reach or out of your control.
Given half a chance he'd have signed him like a shot.

Imagine if this was at Blackpool (not that we have any decent players) and a player of Gerrard's ability was going to be replaced with Jordan Henderson. Be a bit like exchanging Charlie Adam for David Perkins!

Problem is steveg, we have exchanged CA for DP. And a whole host of good players for mediocre. All to get the 'high' earners off the books so the vile family can syphon even more money.

Stevie G has fallen out with Brendan Rodgers!

He will probably sign for a Premiership club at the end of the season - despite what is being said and written.

Stevie G wants to play. He can come to Bloomfield Road if he wants.

Brendan Rodgers - what a clown. Stick to the sun bed Brendan, Stevie G's exit is a huge mistake. Too much sun shrinks the brain!

Brendan Rodgers was at the Fleetwood v Swindon game last Saturday.

Looking for a replacement for Stevie G?

Stevie G, two super goals for Pool last night v Milton Keynes Dons in FA Cup 2-1 win. Stevie G is not really replaceable. Jamie Carragher, is saying that Liverpool should of done a lot more to try to keep hold of Stevie G.

I tend to agree.
You want him in your midfield - even at 34. He still looks in great shape.
