Interesting stuff this.

There's a prospective squad chun ahead in the summer and the club's got to be on top of it.

But what division will we be in?

I'll have a closer look later.

Chris Maxwell - Extend (good competition for places)
Stuart Moore - Depends if anyone is coming through from the development squad.
Callum Connolly - Activate option. Unsure wheter to extend or not. Valuable battling qualities but do we need someone more skillful and athletic?
Luke Garbutt - Release.
James Husband - extend
Jordan Thorniley - could extend but he should only be a back up.
Rhys Williams - Let go.
Keshi Anderson - extend
Liam Bridcutt - Too early to say but he's more than likely too injury prone to take a squad place.
Theo Corbeanu - Let go.
Kenny Dougall - Unsure.
Lewis Fiorini - Not seen enough of him but we'd be unlikely to get him for a second season.
CJ Hamilton - Let go.
Charlie Patino - on loan until the end of the season
Ian Poveda - Let go.
Kevin Stewart - Can't give a sqaud place to someone so injury prone.
Grant Ward - release
Shayne Lavery - take up option and sell if possible
Gary Madine - Needs to be replaced. He could be kept on for his option year but purely as back up.

Out on loan
Rob Apter - Doing well at Scunthorpe. If he's not going to be given a chance he should be let go.
Oliver Casey - It doesn't seem to be panning out as hoped for.
Owen Dale - Apparently doing well at Portsmouth. Sell?
Reece James - Doing well at Wednesday. Sell.
Beryly Lubala - Release.
Doug Tharme - The with the most hope of our out on loan players. Could well be capable of making the step up.
Matty Virtue - Take up option and sell if possible. Otherwise release.

I've seen reports of the Portsmouth manager being worried about us recalling Dale in January.

I can't see that happening.

There's all that business about him not being cup tied too.

It's more likely we're playing our hand and trying to force through a January sale.

Out of the 5 loanees, maybe Tharme is the only keeper.

If we go down, we'll need all of our players, except Bez back,

Even then, I've got us needing to replace about 13 players

Going down is a real concern. To get out of the mess we're (players and management most imortantly) in we've got to face up to the 'R' word.

The second half of the season is going to be the most important series of matches we've had for quite some time. I feel the outcome's going to determine more that our immediate future, it'll decide what type of club we're morphing into.

Established championship team?
Progressive and on the up?
Peterborough type yoyo between L1 and champ?
L1 and facing a tough year on year battle to get out?

Hopes of survival are realistic and are pinned to a few things:

- Appleton (finally) getting his message through to the players and organising them into a coherent team. (a few clean sheets please Michael!!)
- Players recovering from injuries.
- A couple of shrewd January signings.
- One or 2 players hitting red hot streaks (for example: Yates knocking goals in for fun or Patino maturing / developing and running the show).
- Lucky breaks (injuries, suspensions, scabby goals, goal line clearances, catching the opponents on a bad day - for example it would'be been better to play Middlesborough in September and not November).
- Final point, you never know what's going to happen and if ever Appleton goes from bad to worse and gets the sack we might benefit from a new manager bounce.

Wonder who's going to sort this out?
