Flynn - The Right Man To Lead Us Forward?

Flynn: The Right Man To Lead Us Forward?

Although not having definitive figures, my impression of the general trend of posts on this board are that the majority of the troops aren't happy with a number of aspects of BFs reign. yet despite this impression the poll shows that 70% of those voting regard Flynn as the way forward. Does this mean that there is a large silent majority who aren't as critical or vociferous as the anti Flynn camp, or does it mean that despite misgivings, the majority are prepared to accept that along the path of general improvement its inevitable that there are...mistakes....misjudgements....bad luck....a get worse in order to get better syndrome? Or do a sizable amount of voters believe as I do, that one of the few credible statements to come from BF this season is that lack of stability is a recipe for disaster and are voting in favour of Flynn despite their misgivings simply because they are sick and tired of the comical and disastrous managerial merry go round that has blighted this club for so many years. Are these people just voting against their better judgement simply in the hope that any manager given time and a period of stability will turn around the fortunes of our club? This question leads me on to a point raised by others before me, who pose the teaser that do you allow someone whose abilities you have serious misgivings about, several years to get it right whatever the interim results and possibly do greater damage, or do you judge their results and general demeanour and comments and decide that this is not the right person despite their quite reasoned plea for a 2 or 3 year tenure in order to fulfil their vision. The reason I ask this is that the message board is inundated with posts that appear to have a large level of support for thinking along similar lines on the following issues. 1. Flynns 4-3-3 is a disaster 2. Unlike other managers BF appears to be inflexible regarding formation and unable or unwilling to adapt during a game to counter opposition game plans. 3. Although unable to have a definitive measure, most people appear to be questioning the general fitness of the squad in relation to opposition teams (whether this is contributing to the ongoing injury crisis is a moot point) 4. Unlike most managers at this level BF does not appear to put in the hard miles up and down the country scouting new talent ( this may be an unfair accusation) 5. The spawning of a new phrase to describe gobbledegook "Hollinesque" I don't know how many of you picked up on the latest classic on Tuesday nights HTV (" When we're good, we look like a top 3 side, and even when we're poor we look like a top seven side") If at this stage I throw in a couple of posers of my own, putting aside the bare results of late and concentrating on performance and perceived progress of the squad and overall club, could you answer truthfully what areas of improvement BF has introduced that give you encouragement that the club is being overhauled to provide a secure future in order to enable future progress. I shall add my brief opinion on each. 1. Quality and blend of squad...although we have signed what on paper are some quality players especially for the future, do they blend and play together? Signing players is easy, signing the right players isn't. ( I'm not sure that BF has got it anywhere near right, too many youngsters? too many injury prone old timers? Its also all very well saying BF attracted such and such here, but every manager in the league attracts players, I feel that a manager is as responsible for his rubbish signings as his good ones) 2. Youth set up.... admittedly this area requires the will of the board as well as the manager, do you feel that this is being improved to a level that will greatly benefit us in the future under BF.... ( from snippets and posts on this board regarding lack of money for transport, decent kit and ancillary equipment, appallingly sub-standard playing facilities, it seems to me that this is an area than Flynn needs to personally impose his will and influence with the powers to be, to address these deficiencies, perhaps he is, I don't hear that he is) 3. Training regime.... Are the players as unfit as they seem?....( they appear that way to me, the odd snippet of inside info that I am privy too coupled with comments on here suggest that there is a serious fitness issue) Why would people think that BF can lead the club forward if he can't even put a fit side out? Or is this unfair? Essentially I always look at what I feel, to be the general pattern and quality of play from the first team, although wanting us to win every game the result is not always the most important for me if I can see signs that indicate an big improvement in future results. I don't see those pointers at the moment despite us picking up a welcome 3 points on Tuesday. For once I am sitting on the fence regarding Brian Flynn's future although any faith in his judgement for me, went out of the door before the season started after seeing some of the players that were resigned ( yes the usual scapegoats I'm afraid) I have not once called for his head, but am afraid that I definitely fall into the category of not doing so for the sake of stability rather than any confidence in Flynn's ability. What do Flynn supporters see in his managership that convinces them that he's the man to add that progress and stability? Just signing Trundle doesn't cut it for me I'm afraid. Convince me. P.S. I deliberately wrote this before knowing the result of the Rochdale game, whilst the 3 points are important, its the signs of a team gelling and coming good to ensure a steady stream of 3 points in the future that is more important to me. A scrambled win just papers over the cracks.
