Can You Feel It? - Northampton Preview

Swansea v Northampton - Match Preview

Why not visit our sponsors lounge

It's amazing how fortunes can change in a month, and it's amazing what a difference a new manager can make. This time last month a lot of fans had written this season off (quite ludicrous, but there you go), but 4 games and 10 points later, the optimism is back.

Our victory against Chesterfield would not have happened had Kenny Jackett had been in charge. The reason for this is that the players now look more determined, and so do the fans. It was great to see the East Stand stood up and getting right behind the boys during that 2nd half of the Chesterfield game. That support got through to the players and they never gave up, and finally got their reward with a 2-0 victory. Pre-Martinez that match would have ended 0-0, the boos would have been ringing out loud, and confidence would once again have been dented.

I'm not saying Martinez will be our saviour and will take us into the Championship, it's too early to say that. But early indications are all positive, and the boards appointment looks to be a shrewd one at the moment. One can only wonder had this appointment come earlier we may now be challenging for a top 2 place, but that's life I suppose.

Anyway, tomorrow we look to keep our run going with the visit of Northampton Town. 'The Cobblers' were looking like relegation candidates not long ago, but 4 wins from their last 5 matches have dragged them to a relatively safe position, they are now 8 points clear of the relegation zone. Despite their league position they are currently 3rd in the form table, so the Swans will be in for a difficult encounter as is the norm when we play at home. I haven't seen a side at the Liberty yet who haven't worked their socks off, even if they lack the quality.

Team News

The Swans have completed the loan signing of Hull City striker Darryl Duffy and he will most likely go straight into the starting line up. O'Leary should return after missing last Friday's win over Chesterfield.

For the Cobblers, Stuart Gray awaits the clearing of striker Simon Cox before handing the Reading loanee a place in the squad but other than that it looks like being an unchanged side from the one that came from behind to beat Bradford City last weekend.

One To Watch - Kenny Deuchar

Kenny Deuchar, or 'The Good Doctor' as referred to by Jeff Stelling(!) Is currently on loan from Scottish side Gretna, where he was a prolific goalscorer, and even equalled Jimmy Greaves' British record of six league hat-tricks in a season. He scored his first goal in English football for Northampton away to Rotherham at the end of February.
