Roberto Martinez believes that his side has nothing to fear as their season effectively ended at Sheffield United yesterday

The Swansea City boss was not downbeat despite seeing his side's diminishing play off hopes extinguished after the 1-0 defeat at Bramall Lane.

Martinez believes that it has been an amazing season and thinks the Swans have nothing to fear even if some key players end up leaving the Liberty during the close season.

He said “We don’t want to chop and change players – that’s not our ethos

“So you don’t want to keep players that are not happy, you want to keep players who want to win football games.

“If players move on that’s a great compliment because it means we are doing something right.

“Everyone wants to earn more money, but the way we work at Swansea City we are not going to put the club into a bad position.

“Seven years ago we nearly lost the football club and we have learned the lessons of that.

“If the players want to earn more money then they have to get in the play-offs.

“But the good thing about football is that you need to find solutions to be competitive and that’s my challenge.

“If you look at our squad we lost Lee Trundle, Paul Anderson and Andy Robinson

“If we don’t lose players I will have a week’s holiday, if we do I won’t have that week off.

“Whatever happens it’s going to be a football decision as Swansea City has not got any debt.

“I will be surprised if Premier League clubs don’t come in for my players – I would take eight or nine there – but you never know what happens in football.

“Nobody was asking about them before, but I will keep improving my squad.

“We have improved the squad in every window and that’s down to recruitment at the club.

“Our season has been an amazing success. We’ve got the lowest budget and haven’t been able to spend any money.

“What we’ve done is develop our own squad and I’m very proud of that.

“What we need to do now is improve the 20 draws we’ve had this season.

“That comes down to a little bit of know-how and having the experience. If you don’t spend money on experienced players then your players have to gain that experience.

“But I’m delighted the way the players have adapted at this level.

“We have kept on playing football and I don’t think that anyone would have thought that with two games to go we would still be in with a chance of reaching the play-offs.

“For us to be secure in this division in February then credit to the players.

“Next we need to move on and keep improving as a football squad to get into that top-six."

That top six place eluded the Swans in the 45th game of 46 but Martinez remained adamant in his belief of what was needed "It was down to us to get three points because I always thought that 74 points would be enough.

“I’m not surprised that the other teams have lost because that’s what happens.”
