Blackpool v Blackburn Rovers Preview

Some reporters may describe this as a 'Lancashire Hot Pot' but truth me known it's more hotch pot. As Jose Riga attempts to find a formation which will win him his first game, he does so knowing that the side he puts out on Saturday may look very different in a month's time. Having stated this week that he wants up to 10 players he may well be currently having to 'make do' with what he has.

The defeats to Forest and Shrewsbury reflected Blackpool's lack of fire power at the start of the new campaign. Delfouenso cut a lonely figure for 135 minutes and it wasn't until Ishmael Miller joined him for the second half at the Greenhaus Meadow that he looked the player we've seen in the past. Miller looks one Hell of a player and we could well be relying on him until such time as Riga can add to his strikers. Steven Davies is still somewhere in the wings but will take some time to get to full fitness whilst there seems little else in terms of goals.

Whilst Blackpool will be playing their first game at home, for the majority of the players it will still be a new experience and this may well be another damage limitation afternoon. With no signs of additions to the squad and with little news about Jose Cubero, Riga may have to rely on youngsters to fill his bench. Until we have the bodies to complete a full team sheet, any hopes of kickstarting this campaign seem unlikely. That said, Blackpool have 13/14 players who should be able to compete at this level and hopefully with a couple of games under their belt they may have developed some sort of understanding.

Rovers will give a late check on Matt Kilgallon. The central defender limped out of the opening day draw with Cardiff City at half-time after sustaining a back injury, but if he comes through Friday training unscathed, he could return for the Lancashire clash. But whilst Kilgallon could return, Gary Bowyer's side will still be without Chris Brown and Tommy Spurr.

Last season was a huge disappointment at Bloomfield Road, it could be a while before the Seasiders can start to build any sort of new fortress on the Fylde Coast.
