Blackpool v Brentford Preview
Monday, 18th Aug 2014 14:13 by Editor

With a 25 man squad (albeit with a few injuries and still awaiting an international clearance), a couple of games under our belts (albeit missing those aforementioned players and our new signings) and with a home match against one of this season's less fancied sides (albeit they're doing better than we are!), will Tuesday night officially be the start of the 2014/15 season?

All it will take is one decent performance, the right result and a bit more time and the general consensus is that Blackpool could have a decent season. The signs were there on Saturday but it was also obvious this is still very much a 'work in progress'. The basics such as defending crosses and set pieces were amiss, our own set pieces were badly lacking in quality and positional play and where to place the ball at times was way off. However, what do you expect when we've only had this group of players for a few days. In contrast Blackburn almost made the play offs last season and so were a team full of confidence and experience together.

Tuesday does offer a good chance to get the season underway. Brentford have brought in a raft of players and are finding life slow in the Championship after last season's impressive promotion from League One. Man for man you'd like to think we have that bit more quality but it's whether we're ready to play as a unit and impose ourselves on the opposition. Fans can finally start to talk about which side they'd play and with Zoko impressing when he came on, Orlandi hopefully fit again, Ranger ready for selection and others still fighting for their place, there are plenty of choices to be made for Jose Riga,

However Riga will be without new signing Edu Oriol as the winger is awaiting international clearance. Brentford will hand a late fitness test to full-back Nico Yennaris, who has been struggling with a back injury. Marc Warburton will once again be without Adam Forshaw after reported interest in the midfielder from Wigan.

All that Blackpool fans want at the moment is a win. We don't care how we get it but 3 points would push us away from that bottom 3 which will be a cushion we'll need ending the month at Wigan and Brentford.
