Brighton v Blackpool Preview
Friday, 19th Sep 2014 09:13 by Editor

This time last season there were dreams of Premier League football again as an impressive opening to the campaign left the Seasiders amongst the front runners at the top of the Championship. Since then it's been downhill all the way as defeat after defeat has followed and Blackpool have slumped from the top to the bottom in just 12 months.

Supporters will probably never go through a start to a season like this - in fact it's been the stuff of horror stories. However, there are signs that a corner could be turned shortly - even if the Chairman can't find the way back to Blackpool for a BSA forum. There is no doubt that he holds the key to what happens next. Jose Riga has already stated that whilst his players are giving their best, sadly their best isn't good enough. What we lack is that quality that we've seen in other sides this campaign and which we desperately lack. Fulham scored as many goals as we have scored all season on Wednesday night at Forest and therein lies the problem. Whilst we are only losing games by the odd goal, the fact we're not scoring at the other end continues to frustrate.

Most fans have their own ideas about what is needed and who should play. The first team is starting to pick itself. Ranger looks our most dangerous threat up front, the back four is settled and the keeper has been a life saver and the combination of the Oriol twins down the left looks like it can only keep improving after a decent start. But it's in the centre of midfield where we have the main problem and until Cubero finally comes in to the side and Riga exploits the loan market we may never get that one sorted.

Blackpool haven't won so far at the Amex which makes Saturday's trip to Brighton even more of a task. The Seagulls have had a disappointing start to the season and Riga's side will hope to exploit that. We're already 4 points off safety and with top side Norwich at home next week and a trip to a decent looking Middlesborough team the following week, this could be a rare chance to chip away at that deficit.
