Fulham v Blackpool Preview
Tuesday, 4th Nov 2014 18:58 by Editor

Lee Clark's first week as Blackpool manager ends at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night and the last thing he'll want after just 7 days in charge is two defeats on his record. Whilst the new gaffer has been busy bringing new blood in to the squad with Jonathan Legear and Jacob Murphy joining the Seasiders, he'll still have to rely on his old guard if he's to pick up a win in the capital.

In terms of baptisms of fire, you probably won't get a hotter one than that which Lee Clark has gone through this week. Thrown in to a club at the bottom of the Championship, low on quality and confidence and with just four wins all year, the manager saw how bad things were for himself on Saturday against Ipswich. Just 3 shots on target against an Ipswich side who's keeper only found out he was playing 60 minutes before the game is a reflection of where we are. The football has sunk to a quality arguably worse than that under Worthington and Hendry and the whole club is as flat as our back four. So can we get a surprise result in London?

Fulham were down there with us a few weeks ago but having despatched their foreign manager they had a change of fortune with a home grown manager. Kit Symons has pushed them away from the bottom three with some decent results and what looks like some entertaining performances with goals a plenty. In the last four games there have been 22 goals in games involving Fulham with Symons side picking up 5 points. They've scored as many of those goals as they've conceded with Saturday's 3-3 draw against Wigan ending with both sides reduced to 10 men. The good news is that the player sent off was Ross McCormack who will miss Wednesday night's game.

Quite what Lee Clark will have learned from Saturday's game will be reflected in his starting line up on Saturday. Hopefully Joan Oriol will revert to left back, McMahon will revert to right back and Daniels will fight with Rentmeister and Clarke for a place at the back. Perkins should return and that could mean that John Lundstram finally gets left on the bench and we try a more attacking midfield. With Jacob Murphy available we also have an option later on if we need some pace up front.

As the gap gets wider at the bottom, the need for victory increases and Clark will know that any plans he has to rebuild this side and avoid the drop will be scuppered unless he gets some points with the players he already has.
