Leeds United 3 Blackpool 1

For just a few moments after the second goal went in against Fulham you did wonder if Lee Clark was the miracle worker we'd all been waiting for and if this nightmare season was finally going to end. Tony McMahon's sending off begun a downward spiral which continued at Elland Road on Saturday. The manager has now had three games in charge and can hopefully spot our weak areas and what few strengths we have. If not he'll need to have worked it out in two weeks time because we're not far off the final few throws of the dice.

After Wednesday there was a feeling of optimism, but there was also a feeling of realism from those that went to Craven Cottage that we still have that soft underbelly. So maybe surprising that Clark didn't try and change a few things before today's game but instead stuck with what he'd got other than Brian Lenahan coming in for the suspended McMahon. From the off this was a truly shocking performance. For all that Leeds were good, Blackpool were awful. In particular Dunne, Lundstram and Blackman who let Leeds run the show down our left wing.

The game was over before Lee Clark really had the chance to do much about it with three goals in the first half. Liam Cooper's volley from 18 yards broke the deadlock after a fast start by the home side and Soulemanye Doukara ended a team move for the second. Blackpool fell further behind before the break to Mirco Antenucci's deflected shot. The defending was shambolic but let's not take blame away from the midfield who failed to keep possession and just invited more and more pressure on the beleaguered defence. Despite throwing on O'Hara early on for Blackman and later swapping Ranger for Orlandi and Mellis for Lundstram the damage was done despite Nile Ranger heading a consolation goal.

Blackpool are now 10 points adrift at the bottom and unless they reduce that in half by the end of the year it's impossible to see how they will get out of this mess.
