Charlton v Blackpool Preview

"We've closed the gap a little bit but we've got to continue, We cannot come in and be all giddy because we've won on Saturday. It's refocus, do exactly what we've done last week. We're going to work them hard because we believe we can get them fitter - the fitter they are, with the ability they have, we can become a better team." The words of Lee Clark - a man who knows all about being at the foot of the Championship and the dangers of taking another foot off the pedal. If there's one thing that Clark will have learnt at his time at Birmingham is that the foot of the Championship is a bit like quicksand and you've got to fight hard to get out of it.

When Clark arrived Blackpool were sinking fast and it seemed as if we were about to go under. However the new boss has thrown us a lifeline and it's now what we do with that. Whilst on Saturday we'll go in search of a win at the Valley, a draw wouldn't be the worst result keeping this run of games unbeaten going and continuing to chip away at those in front of us. That said, we have to start winning away on the road and against a Charlton side who've hardly been pulling up trees of late that is a good possibility. In fact, Charlton have won only one of their last seven games. Their only win since 21 October was 1-0 at Reading on 8 November.

The Addicks will be without skipper Johnnie Jackson after the midfielder suffered a calf injury last weekend.
Nick Pope continues in goal while winger Franck Moussa (knee), striker Simon Church (shoulder) and left-back Rhoys Wiggins (foot) are out.Blackpool have no new injury or suspension concerns with.Steven Davies looking set to retain his place in attack after overcoming a long-term groin problem. Tony McMahon made a cameo against Birmingham but you'd expect him to remain on the bench for this one whilst any changes at all to the side which won 1-0 last week would be a surprise.

Getting to double points in the league this season took 20 games. In order to be within a fighting chance of staying up in 2015 they need to get to the 20 points mark ideally by the end of the year which means 8 points in their next 4 games. Two wins and Two draws or three wins would achieve that and if that happens would represent a remarkable turnaround from where we've been. However, before getting ahead of ourselves, with just two wins all season and not much on the road, getting through Saturday in tact will be a tough enough ask.
