Jay Rodriguez Wanted By Seemingly The Whole Top Six In The Premier
Friday, 23rd Jan 2015 08:48

Despite the fact that he hasn't kicked a ball since April of last year and doesn't look likely to be able to kick another one till March of this Jay Rodriguez is a wanted man.

The strangest thing of this transfer window is that either most of the top six clubs in the Premier League have got sympathetic insurers or half of the football journalists in this country have not realised that Jay Rodriguez was stretchers off against Man City last April.

Whatever the case the media this morning is big on the fact that a plethora of clubs are about to launch a bid for Jay Rodriguez.

So if this is true then what should Saints do ? My own opinion is that if any of them are silly enough to pay somewhere in the region of £25 million for a player who may not be the same player when he returns to football, then Saints should snap their hands off.

Whilst I still think that if he can return to football in the final weeks of the season Rodriguez could be a timely boost to the Saints cause, a view that seems to be shared by several other clubs who would like them to do the same for them, the stark reality is that this is the unknown, we don't know when he will return or whether his return could see instant success or whether mentally it will take him a while.

This being the case and with Rodriguez going into the last year of his contract in the summer, if the deal is right, then it could be in our interest to sell now and get in a player who can contribute to our season now.

So Saints should tell any potential suitors bluntly, we are not going to haggle, with the transfer window closure only a week or so away, it is offer on the table within the next day or so or no deal at all.

The reality though is that none of these clubs will make a concrete offer, the news is being stirred up in the press because it is a slow transfer window, whilst I sometimes seriously doubt the sanity of the likes of Spurs, Man City & Liverpool when i look at the money they waste in the transfer market, I cannot believe they would want to pay big money for a player who is crocked and with no return date in sight.

As I said they would need sympathetic insurers, as i can't see man being willing to underwrite cover on a player with this injury who has yet to prove that he can return and therefore to sign him now would be a big gamble.

I remain a big fan of Jay Rodriguez, however i am a fan of the player he was, no one knows whether that form will return or whether the injury will mean he will never be the same player.

The injury he has is notoriously difficult to make a full recovery from and has regretfully ended many a top flight career.

Why would any club however rich wish to take a chance now when all they need do is wait until the summer to see wether all is well with Jay?

I think you are correct Nick.Paper talk during an extremely slow transfer window.

In regard to wasted transfer money by other clubs.Post Ronald we did not cover ourselves in glory bearing in mind money spent on players now on loan at Hull and Milan.

Just looking at Walcott and seeing how he has struggled in terms of pace and getting shots on target, proves how difficult it is to come back from this type of injury.
I am expecting nothing from Jay Rod this season, so if he does make it back, it would be classed as a bonus for us, but would not expect to see him until March at the earliest.
This fact would suggest that if any deal is to be done, then it would not happen until the summer and even then, the question would be just how much clubs would be willing to invest on someone who has suffered such an injury.
The transfer window is yet to produce any big transfer coups, so all these little bit part journalists have been busy rehashing their old stories and as always, are focusing on Saints players. (Morgan, Clyne, Jay Rod, Vic, RK himself etc).
Unfortunately this trash talk has been driven by our success, so those performing well at little old Saints must be in line for big money moves to big clubs. (and maybe the odd journalist with a vendetta against us)
The truth is, Koeman has said nobody is leaving this window, so let's all forget about this transfer claptrap and concentrate on the FA Cup and continuing to prove the doubters wrong with our league performances :-)

He flirted with us through 2 windows, not signing off on the transfer, waiting to see if he caught the attention of a "big" club. If that many clubs want him, let the bidding start now at 20 millions (there will be an addtional 5 million added on to the sale price because he is English, and if we can convince anyone Rodriguez is a Brazilian name rather than Spanish, you can bump that up another 10 million)

Prior to Christmas JR was in the Nuffield for several days, head in hands, having been treated by a specialist knee medical team who had been assembled following a serious recovery setback. He'll be going nowhere soon unless proven fitness no longer counts. He might never play again.

Lets hope he recovers fully not only for our sakes but for his career, I doubt he will play a full game this season.
Ironically our last game at citeh, where the injury happened , I dreamt he came on and scored the winner .
