Emery Favourite To Replace Koeman at St Mary's Sunday, 5th Jun 2016 12:01 Sevilla manager Unai Emery is favourite to take over from Ronald Koeman according to media sources.
Unai Emery was allegedly a candidate for the job at St Mary's two years ago before Koeman was appointed, now after another two Europa League titles Saints are reportably about to go for the Spaniard again.
In many respects Emery's job at Sevilla mirrors the one that he would be required to do at Saints, realistically Sevilla are not going to compete with the big guns in Spain and his aim was to get Sevilla up there with them and get into Europe and win a cup or two along the way, just what we at St Mary's want.
Emery is known to want to manage in the Premier League and therefore the Saints job would be high on his wish list given that the other clubs in the top 10 have managers in place and under no threat of the sack at present.
Ironically Everton themselves spoke to Emery but the new shareholder wanted Koeman and decided to break the bank to get him, on paper Emery would be a better bet than Koeman given his managerial achievements with Sevilla and Valencia in Spain, so it's surprising that he seems to have been overlooked for Koeman, but perhaps Everton will rue this decision in the future
Given the situation, I would be very surprised if Saints had not already been in talks with Emery with the intention of making an appointment very quickly if and when Koeman does depart.
Other candidates in the running include Bournemouth's Eddie Howe, although his lack of experience at the level in which Sains are now competing would make him an outsder.

Would be a fantastic appointment given his European experience.

Appears to be a good choice, especially given that he's won the competition that will be a big focus for us next year. I just hope that the club do their due diligence, to ensure that Emery is as "honourable" as Koeman.

would be great opportunity ,with his, record,to finish even higher than last season.however this will require more strength to the midfield and attack and avoid losing points to lower teams.[Norwich,Bournemouth;Sunderland and so on]

To be honest, if we got Emery then we've massively improved: both in terms of manager and reputation as a club. Unai is ranked 5th best coach in the world! His Europa pedigree is second to none. Reports suggest he's been sounded out by PSG. So if Saints are linked with him (and he was to actually come here) then we must be seen as a very decent set up. Seriously - if this happened it may be a case of "Ronald who?"

While Emery would clearly be an ideal appointment, I'm not sure how realistic it would be to get him to come here. I think he will stay at Sevilla. The general feeling from the Everton camp was that Emery was unlikely to leave but the Monchi might (their Director of Football). I feel like Emery might hold out for a Champions League club, plus Sevilla will be in the Champions league next season anyway after winning the Europa League

I like this - this guy would be a brilliant appointment. Too good to be true perhaps? A little sad message to those still clinging to the shattered wreckage of Koeman's "I'm staying at Southampton" ship. He's gone. Jump into the lifeboats and get ready for an exciting future under a better manager, or Roberto Martinez...

A few things... Emery could be good. Great European experience but no premier league experience. Moyes - no thanks. Just not our style of manager. Howe could be more like it though. Lastly Les Reed. When will that man ever learn to keep his trap shut. He did it with Clyne and MP and he's done it again with Ron. Do not come out and tell us everything is going well and negotiations are progressing because frankly now no one believes a word. Say nothing until deals are signed Les. You are making yourself look silly.

Not as silly as Ron has made us look...

When poch came in I thought who is he what are they doing ... But good move then gutted when he stabs us to join the chickens but RK next and on paper was and has been a great manager for us I trust they have a new manager in line hope the above or le boure ( yes not how you spell it ) Rk is not a man of his word and will leave them when a bigger club come for him as saints we march on but concerned about the players Rk will steal

Surely it will be part of the release conditions that they can’t approach any of our players for 1 or 2 years, not that any should really want to join them from us, given our respective league positions and of course us being in Europe. That might not be a concern at all as now RK’s exit is getting ever closer, the stories about a number of players not being unhappy at his departure have started coming out.
