Record Breakers! Leicester turn up for their annual 2-1 win
Record Breakers! Leicester turn up for their annual 2-1 win

Leeds achieve their second unwanted record under Neil Warnock.

Grin and bare it? Move on? New Shirt, New Season? The mood before kick off was very much lets get 2011/12 over with and brighter times are on the horizon as we look forward to 2012/13.

Some consolation if you have shelled out thousands of pounds in season tickets, programmes, merchandise and fuel prices...but there you go!

With 18 games to go, we were told a change in management was needed because there was still a chance to close the three-point gap from ourselves and the play-offs. Typically Leeds flirted with the cheapest option, Neil Redfearn before being stung into action and finally appointing Neil Warnock.

The stats are not good for Warnock, just one home win under him, a record 7-3 home reversal against Leicester's arch rivals from Nottingham and now a club record 11 home defeats which Leeds came literally seconds from avoiding.

A 25,000 plus crowd braved swirling showers and gusty winds to turn up for this dead-rubber. It is slight consolation that Leicester have spent £13m and finished a mere five points closer to the play-offs than we did.

Part of their expenditure has been in the form of Kasper Schmeichel and Jermaine Beckford. Both former Leeds men received contrastingly stark reception from the home supporters. Schmeichel's every touch was jeered, somewhat harshly in my opinion whereas Beckford rightfully received a standing ovation and his name rang out around the stadium where he netted so many crucial goals in three memorable seasons. He clearly enjoyed the adulation and merrily waved and slipped in a quick "Leeds" salute during the early stages of the game.

Leeds infact started the brighter of the two sides and Becchio and Snodgrass both should have done better to test Schmeichel, Becchio in particular was guilty of feebly hooking a decent chance aty Schmeichel when he should have buried it.

Typically, as so often has been the case this season, Leeds slumbered into the ordinary and played like a side who knew that most of its number will be on their way soon. Leicester gained more possession and confidence and after a couple of half-chances, Waghorn opened the scoring on 38 minutes.

Once again, we were treated to yet another show of pathetic defending, the horror began with Brown, hooking a high clearance towards his own goal from midfield which Pugh tried to intercept and totally miss giving Waghorn a free run at Lonergan.

Notably Beckford refused to celebrate and he was withdrawn at half-time replaced by Vassell.

The "dead rubber" feel to the game dominated a second-half of few chances, with most noise surprisingly coming from the East Stand Upper. It appeared that a noisy "Bates Out" demonstration was taking place in the hospitality area with a stream of ditties filtering out slating our glorious chairman and banners, which included one about "Transfer fees not legal fees" relating to the latest, much publicised court-case involving the Leeds Chairman and former Director Melvyn Levi.

You probably would not have heard about it if you listen to Yorkshire Radio!

Listeners to the Ken Bates media machine would have surely adjusted their sets on 78 minutes and those who saw it would have rubbed their eyes in disbelief, two weeks ago it was Billy Paynter finding his scoring touch and today it was supersub Danny Webber. The words "arse" "cows" and "banjo" spring to mind after several weeks watching Webber's feeble shooting and the fluffing of several glorious chances, but even he could not miss Snodgrass's low cross from merely one-foot out.

The crowd bayed for a winner, it never came because after all Forsell was leading our attack now. He did see Schmeichel save one half chance, his second opportunity would have been ruled out for offside, but even one-on-one with the Dane he still could not find the target!

Leicester were not done and deep into stoppage time, despite suspicions of offside and the luckiest deflection of the season, their teenage sub Harry Panayioutou sealed their customary, annual 2-1 win at Leeds and like the traditional end of season pitch invasion - we really could not be arsed!
