The last word on Gosport Borough by their near neighbours! 22:40 - Nov 16 with 358 viewsdurham_exile

Clearly there is no love lost between the Gosport Borough Manager and the Portsmouth News reporter............................after these comments.....................

Boro' manager Alex Pike has released this statement regarding the Steve Wilson's report in The Portsmouth News after last Sunday's FA Cup first round.

"It is inflammatory to write 'As a contest, it could have been declared dead inside 26 minutes of Privett Park carnage' and 'if the vet had been on hand to administer the lethal injection to put Borough out of their suffering, it would have been done in the blink of an eye' or 'if you were looking for some old magic in this neck of the woods, you’d have been better off switching on a repeat of a Paul Daniels show.'

"Not only was there this degree of sarcasm they were examples of inflammatory speculation as well such as, 'in fact, some Borough fans made that very same judgement call as they got up from their seats and headed down the steps of the main stand as Freddie Sears converted the penalty to make it 3-0. Whether they were going home to sulk, heading to the clubhouse bar to drown their sorrows or simply beating the half-time rush to the tea hut was unclear. But their faces certainly suggested they’d had enough and they never made it back to their original seats.' and 'whether the fixture clash with Pompey, the Remembrance Day events or the fact that Borough hiked their usual prices for the game were the reasons behind a disappointing attendance, we can only speculate.'

"I was also disappointed with the comment that was placed alongside Brett Poate’s score out of '10 of Nightmare'.

Let us hope that the local Peterbore newspaper can conjure up something equally derogatory after the Second Round match about the Posh!!!!!!!

Up the U's

The journalist was spot on. It was like a training match for the U's and by 0-3 it was all over. But one must comment on the good sportsmanship of their supporters that shook our hands as we departed, tried to drag us into their bar; and admitted that we had given them a dose of 'reality pills'. Glad too that the police didn't prosecute the fan that ran onto the pitch to celebrate their second goal and let him return before their third. There was common sense and good humour all the way, including U's fans showing them how to celebrate goals (including those against us!).

Against this background of both madness and sorrow, the U's became sloppy in a cavalier sort of way (perhaps everybody wanted to score a fourth, and fifth etc. and thought they had it won already on 26 minutes) and it's no surprise that we shipped 3 goals. Before half time, the rush to the bar/tea bar etc was evident. A cold wet day, it needed something to perk one up., and their 'Pompey (real) Ale' was OK.

As for the £19 admission that was a joke. Had it been at WHCS my guess is that we would have limited it to £15 knowing that few in Essex wanted to see Gosport. With Pompey and Easteigh at home, and TV coverage did their Chairman expect to fill the ground at that price?
