Plus I love the references to the Littlewoods Cup and the Sherpa Vans Trophy and the Freight Rovers Trophy not to mention the Auto Windscreens Shield As we're about to face this mighty club, thought that the young'uns would be amused to indirectly see both Posh and ColU in their rise, progression, regression, and so on from Division Three, to Four, to Three, Division 2, to nowadays, head to head. Not to mention, back in the day P'Bore and Colchester sometimes played twice in a week. I think it is an interesting mirror to days gone by. I found it fun to see how there has frankly been a competitive back and forth over half a century. The stato nuts will eat this post up :P ... *Daniel may well archive it someway. Original work. Took about two days to sort and now it is copyrighted The U'sual's Painstaking to create. But it was fun Mwah backatcha Edit: the contrast in results each term is incredible. Year by year each United went through growing pains. The U's and Posh have an amazing regional history. This one is no less important than v Southend. Just look at the away attendance. The U's v Peterborough history on 16:28 - Dec 5 with 967 views | bwildered | Remember the 1973 3-2 home defeat . Both teams were in the thick of the Division Four promotion race . Sure the match day programme had on the front cover the players in Santa beards and hats , gifts were aplenty on the field . Also a enormous crowd , and when walking home down Butt Rd almost got herded by the police into the Boro supporters, being escorted into town and the station .

I think they squeezed about 7900 into Layer Fortress. No idea how 1973/74 table Division Four Peterborough 65 pts Gillingham 62 Colchester United 60 Bury 59 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Northampton 53 Reading 51

They cleared the snow from the lines but that was it. I did not think the game would be played, afterwards I wished it hadn't.

The U's v Peterborough history on 23:16 - Dec 7 with 748 views | xpdnc | The Boxing Day 1973 game saw the U's wearing the most bizarre kit ever. Something like purple shirts and yellow shorts. I am not sure that the reason was ever divulged.
The U's v Peterborough history on 18:04 - Dec 9 with 693 views | bwildered | Must admit thought the same when the thread came out, but was considering the U's wearing red / blue or blue/ red due to the wrong away kit despatched .
