Depends on how you define influential as 'Grunge' is something else

Bleach - Billy Idol as an example already had that sorted in the 80's so Nirvana were only a few years late!

Um, what?

grunge: Stone Temple Pilots, The Melvins, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Peal Jam, Nirvana...

I take it you're not much a fan of Foo Fighters.

The Billy Joel bleach reference is way over my head. "Bleach" was Nirvana's debut album in 1989.

Unfortunately I am not a fan of any of those listed

Bleach - I never knew that was an album by Nirvana so ignore my comment

Nahhh, it was amusing, Thrillo.

I got to see a lot of the, well, call it what is, alt-rock bands in my San Francisco days (1990-2001), including Pearl Jam.. at the relatively small venue The Warfield on Market Street. Sonic Youth, Perry Farrell with Porno for Pyros after his Jane's Addiction days.

Saw Bjork there and she signed my cigarette pack as me and a mate waited back stage afterwards.

It seemed like Nirvana dropped into SF literally once a month for a couple of shows. Always told myself I'd go see them and out of nowhere Cobain passed away.

Saw many 4AD bands like Cocteau Twins, The Wolfgang Press, This Mortal Coil. Had the pleasure of being in the sardine can of CBGB's in New York when that day the Psychedelic Furs were announced on a radio station as appearing that night. Guess that's how the gamut of my tastes ran that era.

And yes, have seen the Rolling Stones, U2, Santana, Springsteen, Heart, Peter Gabriel.
