Brewers in Town today- Up the U's 10:25 - Apr 23 with 1008 viewsdurham_exile

After another late late giveaway at Gresty Road, our fate can be sealed this weekend if Shrewsbury and Fleetwood secure a point in their respective games.

Never mind the 22 defeats, it is the 14 points gifted to our opposition by lack lustre defending when we only needed to see games out that has ultimately cost the U's their League One place.

Even more good news, expect an exodus from the club of talent like Gilbey, Moncur, Sordell, possibly even Eastman in the summer.

This is the real cost of relegation for our club which has struggled now for four consecutive seasons!.

The recent revival which echoed earlier performances when after 15 games played we had won 5, drawn 5 and lost 5 has now been transformed into a dismal won 9, drawn 12 and lost 22. That is the reason we are going down.

Simply adding 7 points to our total would have given us a fighting chance, but it is all over bar the relegation confirmation which will come this evening.

Can the U's still stay up, mathematically yes. We would have to win our three games and then rely on Fleetwood or Shrewsbury failing to secure another point from their remaining games.

Fleetwood have Blackpool H, Walsall A and Crewe H
Shrewsbury have Gillingham A, Walsall A , Peterbore H and Swindon A

We of course must defeat out of sorts Burton and then win at Oakwell and at home to Rochdale.

We of course are also reliant on Blackpool failing to secure more than 2 more points and Doncaster another 5 points. Simples!

Such an unlikely combination would see:

Crewe, Doncaster, Blackpool and Fleetwood go down

Definitely time for my medication!

KK must decide; does he throw in the towel and experiment with a weakened team to day or try for an unlikely win by sticking to his strongest eleven.

In fairness to Walsall (and why should anyone else be fair to them after we gifted them three points recently) KK must try to win today.

Team:

Parish

Edwards Eastman Chambers Shorey

Garvan Moncur Gilbey

Massey Bonne Lee

Subs:

Barnes Brindley Wynter Kent Porter Akinwande Wright

This season has been a disaster, the players have let the faithful down and some performances have been nothing short of abysmal. Smug Jeff Stelling has never wasted an opportunity to drone on about our lamentable goal difference and number of goals conceded. Ironically we have scored more than Burton Albion.

Earlier in the season we led at Burton and were good value for 25 minutes before conceding a soft free kick and then we returned to type.

Message to team; give the supporters something to cheer today. Play up and play the game.

Prove that there is still some fight amongst the squad and desire to win.

Cry "God for Harry, England and St George!"

Now the pressure is basically off, I have a feeling we'll actually win this game. Of course, if we do, and Blackpool and Shrewsbury lose, will the pressure be back on again?

Against overwhelming odds, let's hope that we can still slay the relegation dragon.

Right, TOOT. The numbers don't add up anymore.

Fleetwood v Blackpool, what a disaster tie.

Need Gills to defeat Shrews.

The U's v Burton, this is the weekend. It's over. But I did predict 2-1 (Moncur)

Indeed, whatever happens in that match today, one of them will be out of reach by 5pm, but t'other wont, and nor will Shrewsbury if they lose. Of course, the biggest long shot is us winning all 3, but we can only dream...

Doncaster and Shrewsbury both winning too - it's all going a bit Pete Tong...

Don't give a Monkees now!

Over and out! Going well for Braintree though.

Only one achievement left for us this season...can we leak 100 goals? Looks likely I'm afraid.

Gerry damage limitation at Barnsley and perhaps signing out on a moderate high at home to Rochdale.

Very difficult tonight to be too positive.

Sadly the league table doesn't lie, this has been a wretched season.

As for the song titles on another thread Peter, "We'll meet again, don't know where don't know when...but probably not Accrington Stanley. Was perversely looking forward to that fixture.

This really sucks. But is was a foregone conclusion.

Maybe Grimsby will get promoted. *big sigh*

If Braintree or Grimsby or whoever get into League 2, they will have earned it.

We will be in League2 because we deserve to be.

Whatever the opposition next season, we will just have to get on with it.

It's not going to be that horrible.

Now that the U's are relegated, let's let the pain pass.

There's lots of fun clubs in L2. The WHCS will have some great crowds. There are L2 fans who will love visiting Colchester. It's not chopped liver.

A remarkable achievement that it took eighteen years to return to the play off final level . Some good honest pros kept us at that level over the seasons and games against teams like Man City , Nodge ,Soton , Fulham , Sheffs etc .
Will be forever priceless .

Next season is going to be tough to take.

I am not looking forward to any of it.

i'm afraid that league Two is nothing but a retrograde step.

Losing our best players!
Smaller crowds
Inferior opposition
Forest Green!!!!!
