Happy League 2016/17 Week 8 (of 38) - Deadline 15.00 Saturday 23:04 - Sep 24 with 1862 viewsmfb_cufc

Week 7 Results

MIDDLESBROUGH 1 TOTTENHAM 2

This win means Spurs have made their best start in the top flight for 51 years. This was the most predicted score of the week, with a massive 12 getting this spot-on, with a further 11 having the outcome.

SUNDERLAND 2 CRYSTAL PALACE 3
A goal in the 94th minute wins it for Palace, as they came from 2-0 down. Nobody had this spot-on, but 11 did get the outcome.

BRIGHTON 2 BARNSLEY 0
Murray scores both goals in a comfortable win for Brighton. There were 5 who got this spot-on, and 13 had the outcome.

ROTHERHAM 1 CARDIFF 2
Cardiff came from behind to get their first away win of the season. Just the 3 had this spot-on, and 3 also got the outcome.

BOLTON 0 BRADFORD CITY 0
Parky's current and former clubs slug out a bore draw. Well done to OhOriOri for being the only one to get this spot-on, but 9 did have the outcome.

SCUNTHORPE 2 SHEFFIELD UNITED 2
A late equaliser for 10-man Sheff Utd, but Scunthorpe remain top of League 1. Well done ethicsgirl for being the only one to get this spot-on, and there were 7 who had the outcome.

COLCHESTER 1 ACCRINGTON 2
Accrington came from behind to beat lacklustre U's, and finished with 10 men. Nobody had this spot-on, and only 3 got the outcome. There were 23 who predicted a U's victory.

LUTON 3 DONCASTER 1
Luton are another team who came from behind to win today, and they also finished with 10 men. Another game without any 3 pointers, but 8 have the outcome.

NOTTS COUNTY 3 LEYTON ORIENT 1
Three second-half goals win it for 10-man Notts County. Another game without any 3 pointers, though 10 did get the outcome.

YEOVIL 4 CHELTENHAM 2
Yeovil put one over their old boss, as they edge this six goal thriller. Not surprisingly we finish this weeks fixtures with yet another blank on the 3 pointer front. Though there were 12 who got the outcome.

Thanks mainly to Tottenham, and partly to Brighton, they saved this week from being almost a total wipeout on getting those important 3 pointers. So a shortage of 3 pointers, but the 87 other outcomes did ensure most members had a reasonable week. Somebody who had more than a reasonable week, in fact she had an absolutely brilliant week, was ethicsgirl. She got the Tottenham and Brighton wins spot-on, to go with the Scunthorpe draw, and with four other outcomes, is this weeks top scorer with 13 points. The other performances of note came from Gate16 and mfb_cufc, both with two spot-on, on their way to a very good 9 points. Just one other had two spot-on, and that was Sector4, who showed his first bit of form this season, to get a decent 8 points.
In the Premier, there is a new leader, and a familiar face at the top, Gate16. Even at this early stage "Mr Consistency" is already looking good for another top three finish. Even though he lost the top spot, another solid week from burnsieespana, keeps him well in contention. The story of the week in this league though is the spectacular rise from the final relegation spot, to the final Charity Shield spot, made by ethicsgirl. Many more weeks like this, and last seasons champ will be looking for another space on the wall to put a clock. The other move of note came from mfb_cufc, up four places into fourth. The biggest move in the opposite direction came from early season leader thrillseeker, as he drops four places. There maybe a familiar face at the top, but that is not the case at the bottom. That is now held by that proverbial mid-table finisher BFG. Though there is still plenty of time for him to obtain a mid-table finish. In fact with just eight points separating the Charity Shield and relegation spote, this league is proving to be as competitive as last season.
In Division One, as his beloved U's continue to splutter, durham_exile himself continues to hold firm, and leads for the fourth week running. It is a lead that has been reduced by another point, as concordman continues to close in. But he is only hanging onto the other automatic spot by virtue of the most 3 pointers rule, as another decent week from desthegooner, takes him up three places, and to his highest position since he returned to the Happy League last season. After his big rise last week, gerry_us is the biggest faller this week, down three, but still clinging on to the last play-off spot. When noah4x4 was last in Division One he romped away with the title, but this time round those 3 pointers are not so easy, and he has now gone four weeks without getting one. Another person who has struggled to get a 3 pointer is Daniel. He finally got his first one this season, but it was not enough for him to avoid dropping to the bottom.

THE TABLES (50 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

The law of averages suggest I should get six x three pointers this week having struggled to get any for two years. My fortune chasing three points mirrors the U's form. A win looks in the bag, then snatched away inexplicably.
