John Ward has made his first close-season addition to the U's squad by bringing in defender Michael Rose from Swindon Town on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old left back is due to complete his move to United Way tomorrow after being allowed to leave the relegated club midway through a two-year contract.

Rose, who is known to the U's boss having played for him on loan at Cheltenham Town and also being on the books at Stockport County during Ward's brief stint as assistant manager at Edgeley Park, made 41 appearances (33 starts) last season, scoring three goals.

The former Manchester United trainee has also played for Chester City, Hereford United, Yeovil Town, Scunthorpe United (loan) and Norwich City (loan) making a total of 368 appearances (337 starts) and scoring 24 goals since making his debut for Chester in 2001.
