The U's ran out 4-1 winners in their opening pre-season friendly, away at Brantham Athletic. United's goals were scored by Dom Vose, Jabo Ibehre, Dan Holman and Freddie Sears (penalty).

As is tradition for the opening friendly, the squad was split into two teams of eleven and given 45 minutes each. New signings Sean Clohessy, Ben Gordon, Chris Lewington, and Dan Holman all featured, with West Ham 'trialist' George Moncur also getting a game. Marcus Bean missed the match due to a knee injury.

The teams for each half were:

First half - Lewington, Andrews, Thompson, Eastman, O'Donoghue, Gilbey (captain), Eastmond, Vose, Szmodics, Massey, Ibehre.

Second half - Walker, Clohessy (captain), Okuonghae, Kent, Gordon, David Wright, Moncur, Drey Wright, Sears, Watt, Holman.

The under 21s also won their friendly today, beating Hadleigh United 3-0.
