Back To Basics Needed For England
Back To Basics Needed For England

England need to go back to the basics for the important final group game against Slovenia, in the previous games a poor performance has been exasperated by certain players trying to try the difficult instead of the easy.

A parralel can be drawn with Golf, in that game the temptation is to try a difficult shot after playing yourself into trouble, with the outcome often being that you find yoursel in mor bother than before, metaphorically speaking England are in the rough with tree's blocking the green, they need to chip back onto the fairway and leave themselves a set up shot onto the greemn, rather than attempt a fancy shot through the woods.

Against Algeria in particular, too often we saw players trying fancy flicks instead of controlling the ball and playing a simple pass, if England revert to simplicity then they should be too strong for Slovenia in all areas.

It shouldnt matter in many respects what formation or even players are out on the pitch, they should be good enough and have the footballing brain to adapt to whatever line up they are asked to play, if they arent comfortable then tthe answer is control and short passes to a team mate.

This is basic football at any level, when you are under the cosh, you get behind the ball, concentrate on winning it and keeping possesion, once your form starts to return then you can start to try the spectacular, if England adopt this way of thinking then they should find they can win well and find the confidence to progress further, if they dont and continue with trying to do the difficult things, then Im afraid the result may not be what we expected.

Finally the manager has to be allowed to manage, his problem now is that at this moment he cant root out the troublemakers as he has no cover for them, personally I have faith in Capello long term and whatever the outcome in this World Cup he should be allowed to continue the progress in the right directions that the team has undoubtably made under his tenure, to sack him because circumstance has prevented him running things exactly how he would want is pure folly.
