Derby Down Under - Spent
Fri 02nd May 2008 13:55 by Daniel J Sewart

After the defeat against Arsenal, what is left to say? Not a lot really.

A season of trying to be positive and keep my chin up no matter what, has finally hit me fair in the cleft.

Sadly the Rams were totally outclassed by their opposition who although were a depleted squad by their normal standards, were still head and shoulders above their opponents.

As many of my fellow columnists have said, it is very difficult to find any more to add to a season of hopes and dreams that has turned into a nightmare. We can only look to the future and hope that the quotes from manager and board alike are a sign of positive things to come.

After getting up at the crack of dawn down under to watch Derby once again, only to capitulate, I have nothing to hold onto but the belief that with Paul Jewell at the helm we will assemble a formidable championship squad that will not only compete but sweep aside all before it.

There are some players in the current squad that show they may have the ability and the fortitude to be a part of such a campaign but at the same time many that probably would be best let go to look for work elsewhere.

It is going to be a long couple of weeks and off-season until Derby run on with the opportunity to right the wrongs of this season. It will be only then that we can truly judge whether we have the right number one in place and whether given genuine opportunity he can turn the clubs fortune around.

Until then I will sit here feeling slightly numb as this season has finally taken its toll on me. It will be refreshing to have a fresh start but twice as worrying that the possibility of failure will bring more instability to the club in a time when perhaps it missed the opportunity to fin the stability it had searched for over many years gone by.

My flattest column ever? You bet… I am just about spent. Not long now.

Two games to go, no expectations…. Any result will be surprising but still appreciated.

C’mon Ewe Rams!! :0)
