Aussie Trialist Scores As Rams XI Draw at Matlock
Sun 25th Jul 2010 08:48 by Daniel J Sewart

Derby County took something of a second XI to Causeway Lane on Friday night which included two trialists from down under.

A squad that included first team faces including Varney, Cywka, Martin, Deeney and Pringle was topped up with two Australian trialists in left back Marc Hatvani & striker Courtney Chipperfield, former Oxford player Joel Ledgister and former Mansfield midfielder Nick Langford.

The game produced many chances for both teams and if the Rams had converted their opportunities would have run out comfortable winners.

Instead Matlock town found two goals from Ross Hannah while the Derby XI evened the ledger through Hendrick and Chipperfield.

Another good hit-out for some of the players looking to make an impact on the first team this season with Cywka, Pringle and Martin especially lively.

Varney did well as he continued at right back but looked more dangerous when he was moved forward and could have easily won the game when he spurned a late opportunity.

Courtney Chipperfield did the most from the trialists on show and took his goal well. Little is known about either Aussie who took part and as an Australian myself I tried to find some information on the boys with little success.

‘Chipperfield’ is a famous football name in Australia with Scott Chipperfield a regular Socceroo for many years and as player of the year for FC Basel’s in their title winning 09/10 season.

Whether Courtney is any relation to Scott is anybody’s guess but if he is half the player Scott is, he would be a great addition. As far as us down under fans are concerned both players seemingly appeared out of thin air.

If any of their family or friends is reading this feel free to contact us here at RamZone.
