Nigel Clough Finally Scot His Hands On 'Exciting Talent'!
Nigel Clough Finally Scot His Hands On 'Exciting Talent'!

The saying ‘it wont happen overnight but it will happen’ would have been an apt description if applied to the Rams chase and capture of Scottish Striker Chris Maguire. After what seemed like an eternity, today it finally happened!

Out of contract at Aberdeen, Maguire has made the switch to the Rams from the SPL club having signed a new three – year deal with DCFC. An impressive tally of 12 goals last season in the Scottish league was a career high and worth their weight in gold for a club who struggled through last season.

The 22 year old Scottish international becomes the 7th signing since the 10/11 season ended and according to Clough and Glick is unlikely to be the last.

The sticking point of compensation to be paid to Aberdeen has seemingly been overcome and an undisclosed training fee has finally been agreed upon. A fee had to be agreed due to the fact the player is still under 24.

Nigel Clough spoke to the official site about his latest capture:

"Chris is an exciting talent who has great potential to improve further. He is a creative player and someone who can bring a spark to the team.”

"He's still young and will develop and improve, but having played in the Scottish Premier League and made his international debut he already has the quality to be competitive in our squad and team."

Maguire himself was excited to have joined such a ‘big club’:

"This move has been going on for a few weeks, but in my eyes it was done about three weeks ago. It is great to get the deal over the line at last and now I'm looking forward to meeting everyone on Friday (first day of pre-season) and getting settled in.”

"When I heard Derby were interested in me I had a look on the internet at the crowds Derby gets, and to have the opportunity to play in front of almost 30,000 people every week was one of the things that persuaded me to come here.” "The stadium is brilliant and having had a look around at the facilities, it is clear to see that Derby is a massive Club.”

"I don't look at anything with fear, I am always looking for a new challenge and I have to show everyone I am not fazed by this one; I can't wait to get out there. I scored 12 goals last season and I think I could have got more, but I feel coming here is the right thing to do for my career.”

"I have been in the Scotland squad in the last few months and a lot of the boys who are in there are playing on a regular basis in the Championship, so I hope coming here will enhance my international prospects.”

"Craig Levein (Scotland manager) watches a lot of games in England so I hope I can catch his eye and emulate the success the Scottish boys have had in the Championship”

Fellow Scot and former team-mate Craig Bryson was happy to have a familiar face arrive at Pride Park:

"I know Chris and having played with him, he has the potential to make an impact," he said. He scored 12 goals last season in the SPL and he has also been in the Scotland squad in the last few months.”

"He is a young lad at 22 who is still improving, and I think he can be a success for Derby."

"He came in and made an impact straight away at Kilmarnock, a winning goal on his debut against Celtic was a great start for him. It was Robbie Keane's first game for Celtic, so it was a huge game for Kilmarnock to spoil the party. That season we were struggling for goals and he really helped us out at a crucial time”

Derby will be hoping Maguire can help them out and score plenty of goals in 11/12 and put the dry scoring spells of last season behind them.

RamZone would like to wish Craig all the best for the coming season and beyond as a Derby County player. As always RamZone will present a comprehensive player profile and further reaction to the signing in the coming days.
