Derby's Passing & Movement Can Secure First Home Win! - RamZone Cup Preview

After playing well and capitalising on Yeovil's poor start to the season, Derby will hope to make it 2 win in four days in the second round of the league cup on Tuesday evening and reach the 3rd round for the first time in a number of years.

With the club offer season ticket holders cut price ticket, there will hopefully be a reasonable crowd in attendance to cheer the Rams to their first home win of the campaign.

Brentford have made a good, unbeaten start to the season after their heartache of going inches away from automatic promotion in the final league game of the season. They missed a penalty, Doncaster went and scored up the other end, and then Brentford lost in the pay-off final to Yeovil.

The Bees have managed to keep the squad together and make one or two additions under the watchful and clam eye of former Manchester City forward Uwe Rosler.

Brentford will head to Pride Park with one or two injury concerns. Everton loanee Conor McAleny was stretchered off against Walsall on Saturday after suffering what boss Uwe Rosler described as a "very nasty" leg injury — which has since been confirmed as having been broken. McAleny joins fellow striker Will Grigg (hamstring), left-back Jake Bidwell (ankle), midfielder Jonathan Douglas (knee) and goalkeeper Richard Lee (shoulder) on the sidelines.

The main danger I see in the visitors line up for Derby is Brentford's number 9 Clayton Donaldson — they will need to be wary of his impressive pace and strength.

For the Rams - Jeff Hendrick will not be risked after a knock to the ankle at the weekend and Jamie Ward will probably be rested due to his hamstring injuries over the years. I expect Eustace and Coutts to be brought in, allowing Hughes and Bryson to dictate play in the final third. We may also get to see Spurs loanee Adam Smith at right back.

I personally would like to see Jacobs to be given the Ward 'roaming' role, drifting out to the left, with Coutts on the right in a 4-4-2. Take the game to them, score early and finish them off!

We must start the game on the front foot and keep the momentum going, even if we do not score early. Derby should be full of confidence after their great win and clean sheet at Yeovil.

If we can get the quality of passing and movement going again, make better decisions and produce more quality in the final 3rd - I fully expect Derby to win.
