Can Derby Trot Out More Maroon Magic To Beat Bolton? - Match Day Preview
Can Derby Trot Out More Maroon Magic To Beat Bolton? - Match Day Preview
Tuesday, 17th Sep 2013 14:56 by George Martin

On the back of a great performance and a hatful of goals at Millwall, Derby travel to the Reebok Stadium looking to set an all time club record of away victories at the start of a season and heap more pain on the Trotters, who have made their worst start in 50 years.

Derby go into the clash with no fresh injury concerns but I am sure Ward's hamstrings will be monitored closely after his 2 games for Northern Ireland and then starting against Millwall on Saturday.

However Jamie was taken off reasonably early playing two thirds of the game until the Rams had the result in the bag - maybe with an eye to Tuesday night.

If he were to be placed on the bench I would expect Coutts to come into the midfield, making the midfield more compact. Yes we would lose the outlet, trickery and pace of Ward, but a compact midfield may not be a bad thing against Bolton.

The purists will say we should not change a winning team, but I would rather have Ward fit for the whole season, then risk him by playing him in his 4th game in 12 days. We will have to leave that decision in the hands of Ward himself and the medics.

I think it will be a tough test. Much tougher than against Millwall, who flirted with relegation last season, has not really strengthened and has an unproven manager at the helm.

Yes it was great to score 5 goals but Millwall are poor and we played them at the right time. With Bolton on 2 points and anchored at equal bottom of the table - hopefully we will be playing the Trotters at the right time too!

By all accounts, despite not having the points to show for it, Bolton are playing some good football and in Eagles, Pratley, Baptiste, Beckford, Knight, Wheater, Spearing and Ngog they have plenty of quality, experienced players capable of putting on a good performance.

Former Ram Tyrone Mears could return for the match meaning Derby defenders will need to keep an extra close eye on him, should he get anywhere near goal, to avoid another chapter in the ex-player scoring against us saga - which frankly is getting tedious in the extreme.

Not sure where to go with this one.

Will the Maroon Magic of our new away kit strike again?

Let's hope so!
