G.M's MatchDay Preview: Rams Must Make Amends With Win Over Wanderers
Tuesday, 11th Mar 2014 00:01 by George Martin

Derby will hope to bounce back from their shock defeat to Millwall when they entertain an in form Bolton side at the iPro Stadium.

Yes, Millwall used negative, time wasting tactics for much of the game, but we knew that would happen. They are not in form and fighting for their lives.

There seemed to be a slight lack of urgency and quality in the final from Derby and they very rarely threatened the Millwall goal. The best chance probably fell to Dawkins, but Forde was quickly off his line to save.

For me, Sammon was not involved enough and did not make the runs or find the space our midfield players need. The man of the match vote by the fans was surely tongue in cheek.

We were not able to adjust to not having Martin as the target man. Therefore I see Martin coming straight back in to the starting line up. The below average display by Bamford and to a certain extent Dawkins may see a recall for Russell and Ward as McClaren will look to freshen things up. Eustace could also return in the defensive midfield role in place of Hendrick.

Bolton will look to name an unchanged side having scored 11 goals in their last three games. Bolton will obviously be full of confidence and this will hopefully mean positive tactics from the away side. This may actually help Derby as they will not get frustrated by the opposition and will not have to force the play. Derby will hopefully be able to play more on impulse and attack with more purpose.

Jutkiewicz will lead the line for Bolton and some of the Rams fans will also recognise the names of Knight, Spearing, Baptiste, Danns and Eagles, all players with lots of experience. They will be buoyed by the 5-1 victory over Leeds but some of the defending that led to their victory was awful, handing them their first away win since Boxing Day.

It will be a tough test for Derby and I am sure whoever starts, they will be looking to make amends for Saturday's coupon busting defeat.

We all hope they do!

Current Form — Last 5 League Matches:

Derby (3rd): W, W, W, L, L

Bolton (17th): L, D, W, W, W

The Stats That Matter:

The Rams were proving to be quick starters this season with 25 of their goal tally coming in the first 45 minutes of matches up until their last 12 matches during which time they have only managed 1.

The goals have dried up for the Rams over the last couple of months after being the leading scorers in the Championship for most of the season. Leicester have now overtaken them on 62 goals with Derby stuck on 60 after failing to score in their last 2 outings.

Steve McClaren has collected 49 points of a possible 66 points as Rams Head Coach with his team only losing 2 of their last 8 matches.

Bolton has struggled for much of the season but recent form has allowed them to pull clear of the drop zone having won their last 3 matches, in contrast the Rams have lost their last 2.

The Rams have not beaten Bolton since 2002 when both teams resided in the Premier League.
