Morley's Musings: My Confidence In Rams Promotion Is Growing!
Wednesday, 4th Feb 2015 06:55 by Nathan Morley

My confidence about the Rams getting promoted has naturally fluctuated quite a bit throughout the season so far.

Recently my confidence has grown — even at the time I believed after the Forest defeat that it was a bit of a blip and hoped that a repeat of the second-half would not be seen again (there’s time yet!).

I have to say I’ve been slightly surprised at the January incomings but first a word on Jordon Ibe. What were Liverpool thinking? A daft moment of panic is my guess.

Brendon Rodgers has already utilised his increasing (under the stewardship of Steve McClaren) ability and intelligence on the ball for him to take part in an under-21 fixture. Most recently, he had around ten minutes from the bench on the weekend; at least it was in the first team this time around.

The signing of Spaniard Raul Albentosa was interesting to say the least. Based on watching the former La Liga man in the first-half against Chesterfield, he looks commanding, reflected in his height.

Stephen Warnock can only add experience, Leeds United fans will be irked in a similar way to Rams fans over Ibe - as to date Warnock is yet make his Rams debut.

As the window was about to slam shut, the addition of Tom Ince from Hull and Jesse Lingard from Man United - injected two players into the squad with proven ability at this level.

Both possess pace, skill and talent to burn plus they both have a point to prove for their parent clubs - and there would be no better way of doing that than helping justify my confidence and assist in getting DCFC promoted.

But in my opinion, the best piece of business appears to be the arrival of Darren Bent. With Darren cam a genuine ‘Plan B’, one that has been met with cheers from the stands.

When Bent comes on, Derby appears to go more direct and they now have a player that looks to make runs in behind the defence. Being less Martin reliant will be good for both he and the team but more importantly, Bent’s knack of being in the right place at the right time has been on show for all to see — proper poacher’s goals!

As well as the new exciting January additions, there’s another reason to be cheerful and that reason is George Thorne!

After the palaver of singing him in the summer and then the devastating injury, it will be quite a great moment to see him back playing in a Derby shirt for the first team. Of course we can’t expect him to be back at his best straight away - but I have indulged in adding a video below of the great man - in anticipation of George’s return!

As we look forward to the fixtures to come and the challenge ahead, Bournemouth’s tremendous form hasn’t shown any sign of abating, much like surprise package Burnley from last season.

The game at the Cherries a week on Tuesday is set up as a crunch game, likely to be a classic top of the table clash that could help shape either teams fortunes for the rest of the season.

The Rams will be ready with a swag of new signings and a spring in their step.

Hopefully this time they can meet the challenge and start to pull away at the summit of the table — only then will my growing confidence in achieving promotion - be fully justified.

Come On You Rams!
