G.M's Match Preview: I'm Not Convinced But Rams Must Consolidate
Saturday, 18th Apr 2015 06:58 by George Martin

Derby will travel to Huddersfield boosted by their convincing 4-0 win against already relegated Blackpool on Tuesday evening.

The players will hope to put behind them what was a below par display a week ago after being outplayed at home to Brentford but managed to snatch a draw in injury time.

The back four of Shotton, Keogh, Whitbread and Warnock does seem to have a more settled, natural and experienced feel to it. I am not convinced at all by Keogh at right back, Forsyth at centre back and Albentosa is no better than what we have already. Not convinced.

Will Hughes will return to the midfield and may come in for Hendrick or Bryson while Dawkins and Ince may occupy the wide roles. Ince scored another great goal on Tuesday, but he still goes missing for large portions of the game. Dawkins deserved his man of the match award but can he do this against an in form side?

Bent should continue up front and with Martin still in doubt through injury, Connor Sammon may be handed a place on the bench after returning on loan from Rotherham a day early as they do not have a game.

Huddersfield should welcome back Bunn and Vaughan from injury but only one of the pair may start. Reports suggest Vaughn has been struggling with an injury so it may be he who has to settle for a place on the bench.

The Terriers are unbeaten in four games that have included convincing wins at home to Ipswich and away to Notts Forest. However, they did have a poor result in March losing at home to Fulham, missing two penalties in that game.

Wells and Scannell are good attacking players and Miller will look to pose a threat from the bench late on. They also possess experience in Lynch and Butterfield.

This will be a tough game for Derby as Huddersfield will look to build on their recent good run of form. Derby will be need to be solid at the back and well organised while in midfield McClaren has some interesting selection choices to make.

Although Derby are unbeaten in four, there is a still a nervousness about them, and a slight lack of belief as everyone still comes to terms that automatic promotion is now out of reach, after being within their grasp for three quarters of the season.

Derby need to consolidate their play-off spot and go out for a win but this could be a tight affair and defending will be the key. The way the team were opened up against Brentford was embarrassing.

Score prediction 1-1.
