What I.Saw: All That Was Missing Was Jumpers For Goalposts
Sunday, 14th Feb 2016 12:07 by I.Saw

The Derby Way. New manager Darren Wassall. Formation, a crowd pleasing 4-4-2.

Team selection, one most fans wouldn't argue with. Martin, Russell up front. Ince, Bryson, Hendricks and Johnson in midfield. Olsson Keogh, Shackell and Christie at the back with Carson in goal.

What could go wrong?

We didn't factor in MK Dons. A struggling side. Yet a team.

They fought, they kicked, they pulled and pushed, they at times punched.

They battled, they had heart.

They had one shot on target and they scored, a free kick on the edge of the Derby penalty area, a curved lifted shot over the wall and in.

It was no less than they deserved.

Yes they wasted time, almost from the off.

Yes the referee was poor, weak, taken advantage off.

But.

But as the game progressed we reverted to type, 4-4-2 became 4-3-3, then 4-2-4 and by the end it was 3-2-5 with Shackell, Bent, Martin, Wienmann and Ince all in a line.

All that was missing was jumpers for goalposts as we played everybody forward schoolboy football, the tactics thrown out the window.

Yes we had shots on target, yes we played a higher tempo game, yes there were positives.

Yes.

Yes I've got my ticket to Brentford.

Overall it's a positive and right now I have one more.

Next week in the smoke, I won't have to listen to our manager saying he's delighted with the players after a below expected performance, after a poor result.

Now that is the biggest positive I can take into next weeks game.

Till then.
