G.M's Match Preview: Rams Need To Start A Run Tonight Against Tigers
Tuesday, 5th Apr 2016 13:32 by George Martin

Tonight Derby face Hull City at home in what is a hugely important match as they fight to hang onto a play off place.

The Rams once again showed their inconsistency with another inept away performance when losing to Cardiff 2-1 on Saturday and currently seem like a win one, lose one team.

Most fans would agree that not much has really changed style wise from the Clement era except Derby possibly do less short passes around the half way line and close down the opposition better.

Jeff Hendrick has a thigh strain so is out injured for the next couple of weeks with Butterfield likely to deputise in his place.

Christie may come in for Hanson at right back and the defence will look to defend better than they did on Saturday from set pieces.

Hughes played sixty minutes yesterday for the U21’s team in their 1-0 win over Fulham so this game will come too early for Will but he may find himself on the bench for Saturday.

Hull have good attacking options, which were on display during their impressive 4-0 victory at home on the weekend to Bristol City but like Derby, the Tigers form has been average of late, especially when you consider the win was their first in seven games.

Unlike the Rams, Hull still have hopes for automatic promotion but have done themselves no favours in recent weeks.

Some people say Derby on paper have the strongest squad in the league and should be higher. However, in McGregor, Davies, Dawson, Snodgrass Huddleston and Livermore, Hull possesses a wealth of talent. Not to mention the attacking flair of Clucas, Diame, Hernandez and Elhamody. Overall it is almost the same squad that was competing last season in the Premier League.

Prediction:

This is likely to prove a tough game for Derby which presents a massive test considering their recent stuttering form.

Confidence gained after the win over Forest will have been dented slightly after the Cardiff defeat, as the Rams are once again looking over their shoulder at the chasing pack.

For the past 3 months we have been gradually slipping out of the play-off’s, as a much needed run of two or three wins cannot be strung together. However, with Bolton arriving on Saturday Derby will be looking to start that much needed run with a win this evening.

Hull have a very experienced manager in Steve Bruce and his team are tough to break down and will look to frustrate the Rams and counter attack.

Despite growing unrest amongst fans, there will be a packed iPro and a cracking atmosphere, especially if the Rams can find much needed tempo in their play.

Let's just hope the players can deliver as a win would set the team up perfectly for Saturday.

A hard game to predict.

A 1-1 draw with Ince to score.
