G.M's Match Preview: Rams Will Continue Winning Ways At Wigan
Saturday, 3rd Dec 2016 06:00 by George Martin

Derby are aiming to make it five wins on the bounce when they travel to Wigan, who themselves have picked up in recent weeks, having won two of their last four games.

Darren Bent is an injury concern for Derby as he has a tight hamstring and if not fully then Vydra is the obvious candidate to deputise. Otherwise Derby will remain unchanged with Baird at right back.

Johnson will continue in the holding midfield role, with Ince and Russell on the wings. Russell again had an ineffective game against Norwich but the team keep winning so it unlikely anyone else will be given a chance just yet.

Wigan have improved slightly under new manager Warren Joyce, who has stepped up from Manchester United reserve manager to the Latics hot seat.

For the Lactics, Morgan is back from suspension and Long term absentees Donervon Daniels and Andy Kellett are edging closer to a return but Reece James and Alex Gilbey are both set to be sidelined well into the New Year. Will Grigg is ill while Dan Burn appears to have recovered and could be involved.

Wigan had a great win away to Huddersfield last week and will be up for the battle Derby will bring to town. They tended to rely on quick break moves involving the pace of forward Wildschut, who scored last week. Buxton and Morgan will be solid at the back and Buxton will get a great reception from the travelling Rams.

Match Prediction:

Derby need to make a good start in this game and immediately get on the front foot, as they did at Wigan in McClaren's first season in charge. Back then the Lactics had been playing in Europe the week before and Derby went for the jugular scoring goals early on. A similar start is needed today.

Wigan will be in confident mood with a new manager, some new blood and a good away win last week.

Despite this I hope Derby will have a little too much quality going forward and will win the game 2-1, with Ince to score.
