Another product of the Academy, Giles turned professional on his 17th birthday, signing a three year contract. He's highly rated by the club and made appearances for the senior side in pre-season friendlies against Burton Albion and Notts Co whilst still only 16.

Several excellent performances during the 2006/7 promotion season caught the eye of the media and Giles became something of a household name almost overnight. With the media interest came the inevitable interest from Premiership clubs and Billy Davies spent much of the latter part of the 2006/7 season warding off approached from Premiership clubs.

A broken bone in his foot suffered in the Wembley play-off final meant that Giles couldn't join in with pre-season training and was not available for selection for the first few weeks of the 2007/8 season.
