Thread of the Week - Savage is a waste of space
Thread of the Week - Savage is a waste of space

Camelogue has stated what many others are thinking in an 'emperor's new clothes' kind of way.

Whilst most people were, it seems, prepared to give Robbie Savage a chance in a Derby shirt and even gulped hard when he was announced as the new captain, Camelogue stated firmly what is being whispered around Derby.... Robbie Savage has been a huge disappointment and appears neither match fit nor in his prime.

After a display last Saturday which is being claimed as one of the worst performances - if not the very worst - in around 40 years, the anger and disgust with the apathetic and lacklustre performance became overshadowed by the news of the Stateside takeover.

There has been a lot to discuss this week - from the win on penalties against Sheffield Wednesday after two extremely mediocre cup performances - to the arrival of Andy, Tim, Tom and Roger from Michigan.

In between came that appalling match at home to Preston where we simply crumbled and where the defence appeared to be having a day off. It's been said that road cones and plastic bags would have been a better bet.

It's coming to something when fans of other clubs stop laughing at our woeful performances and begin to sympathise because we are so utterly dire.

Meanwhile the club has changed hands yet again. Out go the local saviours - although former Chairman and architect of the plan to oust the 3 Amigos, Peter Gadsby, and 'King of Caravans' Don Amott stay on as non-executive directors to keep some continuity of local input at boardroom level.

In comes Andy Appleby who says his family have already bought into the whole Derby County thing and who is going to market us as a global brand, Roger Faulkner who was a tennis player of some note back in the '60s, and Tim Hinchey and Tom Gluck who are moving their families across the Atlantic to commit totally to reinventing DCFC.

Derby fans tend to be quite sceptical these days - and after the 3 Amigos who can blame them? The new owners have certainly made a pretty good first impression and everyone is hoping that there will be a wholesale clear out of the underperforming current team (is there actually ANYONE that we really want to keep?) and some incoming players who seem proud to wear the shirt and appear to commit totally to club and city.

All these issues are up for discussion on RamZone's Message Board.

Thanks to camelogue for initiating this Thread of the Week and to all other contributors on both this and all other threads.
