Jewell Left Bemoaning Familiar Failing
Sat 28th Jul 2012 17:28 by TWTD.co.uk

Blues boss Paul Jewell was left bemoaning a familiar failing after Town were defeated 2-0 at Luton in a pre-season friendly. Home defender Janos Kovacs nodded a goal from a set piece in either half to see the Blue Square Bet Premier side to victory.

Jewell said: “I thought in the second half we were a lot better than we were in the first, but conceding goals from set pieces like that is what’s undone us. How many times have I said that to you?

“I think the first time they’ve been in our half in the second half, they’ve scored a goal.

“I’m hoping to get people to do better than that. We can’t concede goals like that. I said that last year, it’s been no secret. We’ve been trying to improve that department of the team but we haven’t been able to just yet.â€

Despite the loss, Town’s first of pre-season, the Blues manager says there were positives: “We don’t like losing but we’re still training towards three weeks today.

“There were a lot of plus points. You can see the way Massimo can play, we passed the ball really well at times and their goalie’s pulled off three or four saves that he probably won’t pull off again.

“Goals change games. If we had scored in the second half, I felt we would have gone on to win the game.

“You still get something positive out of it, but the negatives are that we conceded the goals in the manner we have done and you’re banging your head against a brick wall sometimes.â€
