I know it’s going to happen someday
Thu 16th Aug 2012 21:40 by Tim Whelan

Neil Warnock isn’t expecting the takeover to go through any time soon, but whatever happens, he won’t use the situation as an excuse for any failings on the field this season. How could he when he’s able to sign players of the quality of Freddie Piquionne from West Ham United?

Neil Warnock told this morning’s press conference that he's not expecting the takeover of the club to be completed in the near future. "We'll be having this conversation around Christmas, then around March, and by the end of the season it might be sorted." In other words, it sounds like he’s as much in the dark about the situation as the rest of us.

And he went into more detail in an interview with the Yorkshire Post. “At the end of the day I’ve got most of the players I wanted. I might not have the exact squad I was after but it’s close. We’ve got a decent team and that’s enough for me. As far as the financial side and the takeover goes, I can’t let myself get sucked into that.

“All I know is I’m getting players in and we’re not far away from where we should be. If the takeover had come off I would probably have had a bit more money but I’ve worked on the assumption that everything’s staying the same. I’m the manager of the football club and I’ve got to make the best of whatever we’ve got. It’s quite simple.”

The latest news is that Sky Sports are reporting that we have agreed a fee with West Ham for 33 year-old Freddie Piquionne. Presumably he will be another bargain basement signing, but his goalscoring record in English football is less than impressive, with only 13 goals in a total of 87 games for the Hammers and Portsmouth.

And on independent West Ham site they are saying that although they hate Warnock, “if he took Freddie Piquionne off our hands, wouldn't we forgive him everything?” So maybe we shouldn’t be expecting great things from our new signing, but until a takeover finally goes through this is as probably as good as we’re going to get.
