Alex Bruce

Position:Central Defender
Date of Birth:28th September 1984
Previous Clubs:Birmingham, Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday

Alex is the son of Sunderland manager Steve Bruce, but doesn't currently seem to be first choice among the many central defenders we have in our squad. When he played last season he looked very good at times, but he was also prone to the occasional lapse in concentration.

The former Ipswich Town defender was signed in the summer of 2010, agreeing a two-year deal with a further one-year option after joining from Portman Road for an undisclosed fee. Alex, who started at Manchester United's Academy before joining Blackburn as a youngster, has also made two appearances for the Republic of Ireland.

In total he has made almost 200 senior appearances in a career that has also taken in Birmingham, Oldham, Sheffield Wednesday, Tranmere, and Leicester. He made over 100 appearances at Ipswich, after joining the club from Birmingham in 2006, but he failed to figure during the latter period of last term and was loaned to Leicester.
