Swansea City ended the Western Masters without a win although they snatched a draw against Cardiff

With waistlines expanding faster than their advancing years the Swans squad containing such legends as John Cornforth and Roger Freestone were unable to progress past the league stage losing to both Bristol Clubs before pushing Cardiff close in the third game.

Bristol City were first up and casually coasted past the Swans 3-0 before Bristol Rovers went even better and beat then 5-1 - John Hodge the man on the scoresheet for the Swans.

Pre-tournament favourites Cardiff looked as if they would prove no real opposition for the Swans in the last game but with local pride at stake it was Simon Davey who latched onto a long Roger Freestone throw to put the Swans a goal to the good in the first half.   Jason Bowen grabbed an equaliser in the second as a much improved Swansea performance ensued.  There though was late drama as first Andy Legg gave Cardiff what looked to be a victory before John Cornforth equalised just seconds later in a pulsating 2-2 draw.

The Swans squad was Roger Freestone, Andy Melville, Simon Davey, Johns Cornforth, Hodge and Ford, Kawme Ampadu and Steve Jones.

Bristol City won the group stage and progressed to meet Cardiff in the final where they won 3-2 thanks to a last minute goal from former Swan Sean McCarthy.  They progress to the national final of the competition in July.
