McDermott will have to move quickly

Brian McDermott will need to move fast if he wants to bring in Matt Mills with Blackpool reportedly interested.

The Seasiders, who have today been linked with a move for both Ross McCormack and Aidy White have been linked with another double swoop on the Reebok with Paul Ince keen to take Keith Andrews and Matt Mills on-loan.

Mills is thought to be the "long term target" McDermott has tried to land in what has been an underwhelming summer of transfers so far with just three players signed and the big kick-off a week away.

On Yorkshire Radio today, McDermott has admitted he may have to consider loans but would only do them with a view to a permanent move.

With Mills reportedly on £25,000 a week at the Reebok and Bolton still bankrolled by their parachute payments, it is unlikely the Trotters would be that desperate to get Mills off the wage bill they would be forced into one of those deals where they still funded the majority of his earnings, a bit like we had to do in the early days of financial meltdown.

On the other hand, I can see Blackpool being prepared to pay Mills that much a week either. However it is likely McDermott could have some competition for his signature and the longer Leeds interest stalls the more likely it is he will end up elsewhere.
