Rudy to return for battle of Oakwell
Friday, 18th Apr 2014 14:20

Leeds head to Barnsley aiming to put 17 years of hurt behind them and increase the Reds' relegation woes, with Michael Tonge injured Rudy Austin is set to make a return to the starting XI. But we will definitely be without Sam Byram who is still troubled with a hamstring injury.

Leeds have not won at Oakwell since 1997, Scottish striker Derek Lilley netting a late winner in a 3-2 triumph after the whites' trailed 2-0. Since then it has been synonymous with morale sapping defeats and thrashings. The 4-1 and 5-2 during Simon Grayson's tenure were hard to bare and in January last year, our last visit to date the fans started to turn against Neil Warnock following a feeble 2-0 defeat.

This season the recipe for another disaster in South Yorkshire could be on the cards, Danny Wilson's men are battling for their Championship lives yet again whilst yet another season of mid-table mediocrity beckons for Leeds, a reflection of this being that there are still tickets available in the away end for a short-trip whites' fans normally relish.

When the sides clashed on the Saturday before Christmas, Jack Butland was a hero with a string of saves which arguably kept the score at 0-0. Butland of course has since swopped sides and will be hoping for only his second clean sheet in a disappointing loan spell at Elland Road.

Our last victory here saw a rare moment of glory in the inauspicious Leeds career of Derek Lilley, who netted his only Leeds goal at Oakwell before taking in the lower leagues of England and his homeland. Luckily fellow Scot Ross McCormack, who this week is rumoured to have attracted interest from newly promoted Premiership side Leicester City, is more prolific and is set to break the 30 goal barrier over the Easter break.

Let's hope he can do it tomorrow, however with the Tykes battling for their lives and our usual hoodoo here I'm going for a 1-1 draw at best.
