Are you disrespecting me?
Are you disrespecting me?

Massimo Cellino has now claimed that he finally agreed to sell Ross McCormack to Fulham because our leading goalscorer had 'disrespected' him!

“Cellino told the Yorkshire Evening Post “I like to be in control of situations but it felt like he wasn't my player. I was disrespected, he was aggressive with me. He didn't turn up for the tour and all the time he wanted to go from here.

It wasn't in my mind to sell McCormack, it wasn't my plan, but I had no choice. He's a bloody good player and I'm not going to pretend that he isn't but he didn't respect me and it wasn't possible to keep him.”

So what’s the truth behind all this? Is this just another mad outburst by Cellino, or has McCormack really been aggressive towards him?

From what I’ve seen of McCormack I would have thought it would be out of character for him to actually be aggressive with Cellino rather than stating his case in a calm but foreceful manner when the two men had their face to face meeting last month.

It could be that Cellino is playing a canny game, trying to deflect attention away from McCormack’s comments that he left because he felt Cellino’s Leeds were lacking ambition and to suggest another reason why he sold the player.

But I think it’s more likely that his big ego has been bruised. As he says, he likes to be in control, and he just can’t bear the thought that somebody might just prefer to be somewhere else rather than playing for him.
