Redfearn close to agreeing a deal after all
Thursday, 30th Oct 2014 13:52 by Tim Whelan

Yesterday it seemed that Cellino and Neil Redfearn could be unable to agree terms for Redders to take over as head coach, a deeply worrying prospect when it could be that Redfearn could be the last chance of bringing a bit of sanity to our season.

Initially Cellino was unwilling to increase the salary he was on as the head of the academy, which seemed most unreasonable when he would be taking on a lot of extra pressure and responsibility. And Redfearn wanted his contract changed to make it less worthwhile for Cellino to sack him on a whim the next time we go three or four games without a victory.

But thankfully Redfearn and Cellino are reported to have reached a compromise today and to have agreed a new wage package. The YEP say that a source has told them that there is still “work to be done” but that Redfearn’s promotion into his new role should be plain sailing from now on, and it should be confirmed before Saturday’s match at Cardiff.

Redfearn seems to be one of the few people at Leeds who Cellino respects and who is prepared to speak his mind to Il Presidente. And maybe even Cellino realised that very few managers would now be mad enough to come and work for him, which must have strengthened Redfearn’s hand in the negotiations.

Cellino is known as the ‘manager eater’ in his native Italy, and many Leeds fans are getting tired of his antics, grateful as we are for the amount of money he put into the club during a difficult time last season. He has made two poor choices for head coach already and seemed to make both appointments without giving them anywhere near enough thought.

The result has just been chaos, and a position in the bottom third of the table when we should be doing much better with the squad of players we have. So we can but hope that Redfearn is given the backing he needs to bring a bit of stability to the club, as this could be our last chance to save our season.
