Massimo loses his Head
Thursday, 28th May 2015 06:24

The ever-impulsive Massimo Cellino appears to have sacked our Head of Recruitment before the unlucky candidate even took up his post? However has our owner got this one right?

The ironically named Steve Head was set to join us as the grandly titled Head of Recruitment, however a contract-offer to move to Elland Road has been effectively ripped-up by our eccentric owner as Head announced he planned to go on holiday immediately!

Head was at newly promoted Norwich City, who know a thing or two about recruiting players from Leeds. However he has been on gardening-leave since January after the Canaries removed Neil Adams.

Obviously this will be another example of how precarious employment is under Cellino; he has already sacked one-manager and three head-coaches in just 12 months. However I can't help but feel that Massimo might have got this one right. In the real-world, if we take up a new job-offer we are normally expected to declare any pre-booked holidays so if Head dropped this in unannounced as rumoured, then you can't expect Massimo to be best-pleased! Surely now we need to be thinking about making our first signing seeing as it will be five-weeks since the season finished come Saturday?

We sure have moved on from the days of Keith Archer and dear Bob Baldwin toiling away in the background. The infrastructure looks pretty-weak, Cellino still needs to find a Sporting Director to suit his continental model following the departure of Nicola Salerno. I must admit I thought Salerno's remit was to recruit fresh-players - something he clearly struggled with overall when considering the poor quality of some of last seasons signings? Where a Head of Recruitment sits in all of this is anyone's guess?

New boss Uwe Rosler has been here a week and is yet to appoint as Assistant Manager and Head Coach. Rob Kelly is the rumoured favourite to be Rosler's right-hand man, the vastly experienced coach has been out-of-work since holding the fort at West Brom prior to the appointment of Tony Pulis in January.

Whether or not Steve Head could have given us the "heads up" (groan) on Luciano Becchio's availability remains to be seen? However it is common-knowledge that the Argentine is now a free-agent following his disasterous spell at Carrow Road and searching for a new club. However given that Cellino apparently baulked at the chance to bring Becchio in on-loan back in January surely means that Becchio won't be making a sentimental return to the north any time soon?

The nostalgic ones amongst us will also be disappointed to hear that Leeds have also cooled off interest in resigning two more old favourites. Paul Robinson and Jermaine Beckford were reportedly Leeds targets following their release from Blackburn and Bolton respectfully, however the Yorkshire Evening Post today reckon this is well-wide of the mark!
