Michu - Thanks And Good Luck
Monday, 22nd Jun 2015 20:04 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

It seemed inconceivable as Michu scored in the Mestalla as part of our famous 3-0 victory in 2013 that less than two years later he would be a player in the wilderness but that is exactly what he seems to be at this point in time.

Signed by the Swans for the bargain fee of just £2m he was one of the stars of the 2012/13 season, scoring over 20 goals and leading the Swans to their first major trophy when they beat Bradford 5-0 at Wembley in 2013.

At that point in time he would have been hot property and there was talk about a £15m move for the player that summer although the Swans clearly didn't want to sell and resisted any form of interest in the player to take him into a second season.

And that season started well with Michu back in goalscoring form including on that wonderful night in Valencia where the Swans upset all the odds to create one of our most famous victories of all time.

If that was a high point at the time, for Michu it was probably as high as it got as he never relieved those high points again. He scored just two more goals for the Swans as the injuries took hold and his form went off the boil at the same time.

The sacking of Michael Laudrup did not help him and the love affair between Swansea and Michu was coming to an end almost as quickly as it started.

He was loaned out to Napoli last season but made just three appearances last season as once again he had injury issues that kept him sidelined.

Meanwhile, the Swans moved on. In came Gylfi Sigurdsson last summer and this time around Andre Ayew has arrived which would push him further down the pecking order should he make a return to the Liberty. We finished eighth last season with a record points tally and Swansea have now gone past needing what Michu can offer us it seems.

He - or rather his representatives - will be in Swansea this week to discuss what happens next but it seems increasingly unlikely that there will ever be a reunion for the Swans and their one time golden boy

We should though never forget what Michu bought this club in what was a brief - but massively enjoyable period - of our history and I will always be grateful for him creating some brilliant memories which we will never forget.

Good luck Michu whatever the future holds
