Several fixture changes already
Monday, 29th Jun 2015 22:27 by Tim Whelan

Only a week after the fixture list came out it is being hacked around already, with our visits to Huddersfield Town, Blackburn Rovers and Fulham all affected.

The first game to be moved is the away game at Fulham has been put back by 24 hours and will now take place on Wednesday October 21st. This change was announced on the official site, but no reason was given for the fixture change.

Next up is the trip to Huddersfield on Saturday November 7th, which has been moved to a 12.30 kick-off “on police advice”, as it has been every time this fixture has fallen on a Saturday in the last decade. A bit nearer the time the Town fans will have their annual moan in the local paper to complain that all the extra security measures at this game are all our fault, because no one from Huddersfield has ever been known to behave aggressively at this fixture.

While it’s no surprise to see the Huddersfield kick-off brought forward, a new change for this year is the game at Blackburn, which has already been brought forward to 12.30, even though it isn’t until March 12th. This is another police request.

Presumably this is because of the disturbances inside the Wetherspoons 'Postal Order' pub in the town centre last season, when one of two Leeds fans got a bit carried away after consuming a couple of shandies too many. This followed on from a bit of bother in the same pub the year before, so I’m guessing the landlord won’t be quite so keen to be the nominated Leeds fans pub in 2015/6.

And while that incident got all the press attention, I witnessed another small-scale dust-up after the game at a canalside pub halfway between Ewood Park and the town centre, when a group Rovers fans objected to some Leeds fans trying to get into a home fans-only establishment. Hopefully we will still get the large ticket allocation we’ve enjoyed at Blackburn during the last two seasons, despite these isolated bits of bother.

And in addition to these changes, we are still waiting to learn how many fixture changes we will have to endure to suit our good friends at Sky TV, with the league cup tie at Doncaster the only televised game to be announced so far. Watch this space.
