Now Cellino puts sale of Leeds “on hold”
Friday, 20th Nov 2015 17:40 by Tim Whelan

Massimo Cellino has now announced that he has put the sale of the club on hold until the new year, even though he might have been banned from running it by then.

I was just starting to think that it had gone a bit quiet since we had that blaze of publicity a couple of weeks ago about the possible sale of the club. I was wondering if negotiations were going smoothly behind the scenes, but surely nothing is ever that simple in the world of Il Presidente.

First he agreed to sell the club to Leeds Fans United, but then pulled out of that deal. Apparently this was because he thought the group had given too many details to the press in advance of serious negotiations.

Next up was Steve Parkin, who reportedly only wanted to buy 50% of the shares, but who couldn’t reach a deal with Cellino to buy even half the club. It seems he objected to being asked to pay a deposit before his accountants could begin a due diligence exercise. At least this has spared us from the possibility of David Moyes being appointed as our manager.

Cellino claimed that in total six different parties had been in touch over buying the club, but apparently not one of them can be considered to be serious. He now says that he is unwilling to sell the club until he knows Leeds will be safe in the Championship at the end of the season, but hopefully that won’t be too long given the recent upturn in our form.

Is this because none of the buyers are offering quite as much money as he hoped? Or is this just yet another example of Cellino’s ever changing moods, as he continues to act on impulse, with no thought of any long-term strategy? Will he change his mind again if he loses his appeal against his latest ban from the Football League and is condemned to another spell on the sidelines?

It would be nice if the situation could be resolved fairly soon, but I’ve no doubt it won’t be.
