Leeds United: Whites move for international defender mooted
Saturday, 24th Dec 2016 16:19 by Lucas Monk

FourFourTwo Australia have claimed that Leeds United are eyeing up a swoop for Bradford City's 28 year-old left-back James Meredith.

Meredith, whose contract is due to expire come the conclusion of the current season, has been with the Bantams since 2012, following a three-year stint in the colours of York City.

The former Derby trainee is an Australian international with two senior caps to his credit, and he has been a regular in the Bradford side throughout the duration of his stay at Valley Parade, having made over 130 appearances for the League One club.

With current left-back Charlie Taylor set to be out-of-contract at the end of the season, the United management appear to be drawing up contingency plans in order to secure a replacement should York-born Taylor, 23, decide to depart. FourFourTwo Australia report that the Whites are intently monitoring Meredith's situation with a view to potentially submitting a contract offer to the player and his representatives at the end of the season.

Leeds remain eager to see that Taylor signs a contract extension with the club, but the fact that the club's management are lining up replacements should such an event fail to manifest bodes well for the future.
