Leeds United: Former Striker Has His Say on FA Cup Tie
Saturday, 7th Jan 2017 18:23 by Lucas Monk

Former Leeds United striker Tom Elliott has expressed his views on Monday's FA Cup third round tie between the Whites and Cambridge United.

Elliot, 26, made his professional debut for Leeds at the tender age of 16 in 2007, replacing the reviled Kevin Nicholls as a substitute in a league fixture away to Norwich City, and the former Whites man has had his say on Monday's FA Cup tie.

The game sees two of Elliot's former clubs clash in front of the BT Sport cameras, as the Leeds-born forward also spent three seasons with Cambridge between 2012 and 2015, in which he scored 26 goals.

“Anything can happen in the FA Cup. We were losing 3-0 to Curzon Ashton in the last round after 80 minutes, and they’re three divisions below us,” said Elliott in an interview with Cambridge News.

“If all of Cambridge’s major players turn up on the day then you never know what could happen. I think it will be a great game.

“Leeds are trying to get back into the Premier League, Cambridge want to get into League One and both teams have young managers, so I’m looking forward to watching the game.

“It’s a long trip for Leeds and you don’t know — they might turn up or they might not fancy it.

“I think Leeds are going to have to fight against Cambridge because Shaun Derry’s really got them going this season.

“The Cambridge fans were brilliant when I was there so I know they’ll be behind the team, and the Leeds fans are also amazing and I’m sure they’ll have a big following there.”

Elliott is presently contracted to Sky Bet League One side AFC Wimbledon, following his release from the Abbey Stadium at the end of the 2014-15 season.
